About Creating

Journaling is a powerful tool for expression of your creative life force and energy. It can be used in a variety of ways. There are times when words cannot express what is in your heart. Words are heavy and yet there is a need for an action of expression. This action can be in the form of a simple drawing of an image that is arising, or an expression of a feeling state, or an expression of seeing the beauty from within.

These drawings were done on retreats and at different points in the process. By using colored pencil, it was easy to pick up a pencil and spontaneously start drawing what was clearly present. While no drawing can capture the ineffable, it can provide an outlet for the fire of your creative heart to emerge. Afterwards, it can also provide a bridge in the mind to seeing the courage you are sustaining thorough the whole ordeal, and it can give you feedback from your soul as it emerges from the great mystery.

There were times when I was on retreat and went to my teacher and had nothing to say, only a simple pencil drawing, no words were coming. And, the drawing helped us to find the questions that were pushing me onward to further opening. Not every teacher is open to this type of expression on retreat. Nevertheless, for me, it was a calling from deep within to do it once in a while. A picture can be the same as a thousand words: allow for this possibility as you inquire into the source of who you are.
